If you want a happy ending, of course, that all depends on where you end the story. Oscar Wilde
I love history--and I love recreating what I can from the past, pulling small tendrils from the tapestry of times gone by: clothing, food, little nuances of expression. When I write, I write fiction inspired by the past or nonfiction aimed at preserving it; when I read, I gravitate towards works set in the past or nonfiction exploring the past. And reenacting--I think I described it once as "full-contact historical fiction" and in many ways it is--a fabrication of the past, surely, but a well-researched and dedicated fabrication.
I like the present, too, of course, and when I'm not sewing, writing, or engaged in living history with my reenacting organization, I can be found hiking, sharing a beer with a friend at our favorite Irish pub, or hosting friends at home for cookouts and cocktail parties. I am in constant pursuit of creating my signature pie crust (latest incarnation includes butter, lard, and a side of heart disease). I'm a little old-fashioned and quite a bit quaint--I prefer mincemeat to mousse.General disclaimers: If you'd like to use something from this blog, please ask first.
